- The victim and his grandson maintained a safe distance of at least 100 yards per National Park Service guidelines, though the bison stood at least 6 feet tall.
- Park visitors called 911, and Yellowstone EMS arrived promptly; the victim's grandson reported his grandfather sustained significant injuries and is not out of the woods yet.
