Aaron Judge to IL with calf strain, likely to miss rest of regular season
Utilityman Max Schuemann will be recalled as the Yankees lose their captain for at least 10 days and likely the rest of the regular season.
The New York Yankees announced Friday that captain Aaron Judge will be placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to a right calf strain.
Judge suffered the injury during Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins, just seven games removed from a 99-day absence for a rib fracture.
Ranking last in K% at 26.1% and 29th in wRC+ at 90, the Yankees' offense struggled significantly during Judge's previous absence from June through September.
Utilityman Max Schuemann will be recalled from Triple-A to replace the slugger, who is eligible to return Sunday, Sept. 27, the final regular-season day.
Although the second-place Bronx Bombers have already secured a postseason berth, they will play the final 10 games without their star player, worsening their odds of snatching the division title from Tampa Bay.
