Ultima Genomics Announces UG200 Series Selected for Basecamp Research's Groundbreaking Trillion Gene Atlas
Basecamp Research aims to expand evolutionary genetic diversity 100-fold by collecting genomic data from over 100 million species worldwide in two years to accelerate AI-driven drug design.
- Basecamp Research announced the launch of the Trillion Gene Atlas on March 18, 2026, unveiled at SXSW and NVIDIA GTC to generate and model biological data at the trillion-gene scale.
- To address a biological data bottleneck, EDEN foundation models, released earlier this year, trained on more than 10 billion novel genes from over 1 million new species using BaseData, over 10 times larger than public repositories.
- 'PacBio HiFi sequencing delivers highly accurate long reads that preserve full genomic context and enables subspecies and even strain-level resolution in complex samples,' said Christian Henry. Basecamp Research selected Ultima Genomics' UG200 Series to enable the Trillion Gene Atlas, with partners advancing sequencing technology.
- Set on a two-year timeframe, the project uses NVIDIA AI infrastructure to compress sequencing, assembly, annotation, and model training that once required more than 20 years.
- By collecting genomic data from more than 100 million species, Basecamp's network spans 31 countries with new partnerships in Chile, Argentina, and Antarctica to expand evolutionary diversity 100-fold, partners say AI will then design medicines on demand.
