The remains of U.S. Army Pvt. Willard D. Merrill, 21, of Dover-Foxcroft, who was captured and died as a prisoner of war during World War II, have been identified.

[80 years after the war] [Itoman] A skull and arm bones believed to be those of a war dead from the Battle of Okinawa were found in a small forest near Kiyan, Itoman City. They were discovered by Takamatsu Gushiken, head of the remains collection volunteer group "Gamafuya". Rifle cartridges and military uniform buttons used by the former Japanese military were also found in the surrounding area, suggesting that they may belong to a former Japane…
