European interest in green Tiwag battery

The EU wants to phase out fossil fuels by 2050, and it needs huge batteries in the form of power plants in Tyrol. One of them is to be built in the Platzertal valley.

The state-owned Tyrolean energy supplier submitted the controversial expansion of the Kaunertal power plant for environmental impact assessment (EIA) on Monday morning. The responsible parties expected a final decision by 2029. The implementation of the 1.6 billion euro mega project is to be carried out by 2034, according to a press conference in Innsbruck on Monday.
