WSU Football Player Recovering After Allegedly Being Shot by a UW Student

Jakori Buchanan is wanted for first and fourth-degree assault after allegedly shooting WSU player Sone Falealo, who is expected to fully recover, police said.

  • On Sunday, Sept. 21, Pullman Police Department responded to a reported shooting at Aspen Heights Apartments, where Washington State University redshirt freshman offensive lineman Uilisone 'Sone' Falealo was shot.
  • Acting as security, Falealo and two teammates confronted Jakori C. Buchanan after he allegedly punched a woman, leading to a fight and Buchanan shooting Falealo shortly after.
  • Investigators recovered a 9mm pistol and 9mm shell casing from the apartment parking lot, while surveillance and bystander video reviewed by Pullman detectives show Buchanan firing a single shot and fleeing in a gray 2025 Hyundai Sonata with Minnesota plate REW514.
  • The victim, Uilisone 'Sone' Falealo, underwent surgery to remove the bullet, is stable and expected to recover, while Pullman Police Department secured a felony warrant Monday for Jakori C. Buchanan, who remains at large and considered armed and dangerous.
  • With investigators calling the shooting isolated, Washington State University said it is supporting the student-athlete and encouraged students to contact Counseling and Psychological Services at 509-335-4511.
