- On Tuesday, World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez held a joint press conference, with Tedros stating "our work is not over" to contain hantavirus.
- After Cape Verde refused the vessel, Spain allowed the MV Hondius to anchor in the Canary Islands on Sunday and Monday for evacuations, despite fierce opposition from the regional government.
- So far, 11 hantavirus cases have been reported among the nearly 150 passengers and crew from 23 countries, including three deaths, with nine confirmed and two probable cases.
- Acting U.S. CDC director Jay Bhattacharya stated on Monday that the public health risk is "much, much lower" than the COVID-19 pandemic, as more than 120 passengers were evacuated from the Canaries.
- Health authorities continue monitoring high-risk contacts, though Tedros cautioned it is "possible we might see more cases in the coming weeks" due to the virus's long incubation period.
