Australia Flogs the Netherlands for a Third Straight Women's T20 World Cup Win
Beth Mooney scored an unbeaten 74 as Australia moved within one win of a semifinal berth.
On Saturday, Australia earned a third convincing win at the T20 Women's World Cup, defeating the Netherlands by 98 runs in Southampton. Australia posted a tournament-high 219-6 while restricting the Netherlands to 121-3.
Opening batter Beth Mooney gave Australia a scare when she retired on 74 off 42 balls with "back stiffness." Cricket Australia confirmed the injury, though the 32-year-old played down concerns.
Ash Gardner returned from an ankle sprain to score 58, while Georgia Wareham swept Australia past 200 with 41 off 18 balls. Georgia Voll took wicketkeeping duties after Phoebe Litchfield was sidelined by a quad issue.
Despite the loss, captain Babette de Leede struck an unbeaten 56 in her 100th T20I, leading a 96-run, third-wicket stand with Sterre Kalis. De Leede praised Australia as "a quality team" to learn from.
Australia's third win places the team on the cusp of securing a top-two group berth and a semifinal spot. The six-time champions now prepare for matches against Pakistan and India, with debutant Lucy Hamilton providing selection depth.
