Woman killed in bar shooting was innocent bystander
Police say Shanice Brookes was an innocent bystander, and three people remain in custody as detectives seek witnesses and a white Audi linked to the shooting.
On Monday at 2.45am, police responded to a shooting outside One Four One bar on West Street in Sheffield city centre, finding a 30-year-old woman with serious injuries who later died in hospital.
The shooting unfolded in Sheffield's busy West Street entertainment district during bank holiday Monday, a popular nightlife area frequented by students and locals celebrating the weekend.
Three suspects—two men aged 30 and a woman aged 32—were arrested on suspicion of murder; one man and the woman were detained near Stockport in Greater Manchester while a second man was apprehended in Sheffield.
Chief Superintendent Henderson confirmed the victim was an 'innocent bystander' and appealed for witnesses from West Street and Eldon Street to come forward, stating police would publish incident images on social media channels.
Henderson warned gun owners: "If you have a gun or intend to use one, we will find you and you will go to prison," while acknowledging some community members fear reporting gun crime despite shootings declining in Sheffield.
