Woman dies from injuries after escaping apartment fire
Police have declared a crime scene as investigators examine whether the blaze that trapped a 21-year-old woman was deliberately lit.
A 21-year-old Kallangur woman died at 4:30am Monday after becoming trapped in a unit fire on King Street in Buderim on the Sunshine Coast late Sunday.
Emergency services responded to reports of the unit block fully engulfed in flames at 7:30pm Sunday, evacuating residents while crews extinguished the blaze after more than one hour.
Robert Lowry, from the Sunshine Coast district's Criminal Investigation Branch, said a 32-year-old woman escaped the unit before the fire took hold, while paramedics assessed another woman nearby.
Police have established a crime scene at the Buderim property, and investigators are working to determine whether the blaze was deliberately lit.
Lowry expressed sympathy for the family of the deceased, confirming they are receiving support as the investigation continues.
