WAUCONDA, ILLINOIS, JUL 10 – Carol Reith faces animal cruelty charges after 52 dogs were found in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions with no air conditioning, authorities said.
- Police removed 52 dogs from a Wauconda home on Sky Hill Road on Wednesday after reports of unsanitary and overcrowded conditions.
- Authorities responded following an anonymous tip alleging poor air quality, no air conditioning, and signs of inbreeding among the dogs.
- Officers detected a strong urine odor outside, saw feces on the driveway, and an animal control officer was bitten requiring medical care during the operation.
- Owner Carol Reith was charged Thursday with a misdemeanor count of animal cruelty and is due in Waukegan court July 24, while the house was red-tagged as uninhabitable.
