Woman airlifted to hospital after being mauled by dog in vicious attack
A woman in her 50s suffered serious facial and head injuries after a pitbull terrier attacked her at home; the dog was euthanised and investigations continue.

- One of the woman's two dogs reportedly turned on her inside the home, and Gardaí said the dog is believed to be of a restricted breed, with reports identifying a pitbull terrier.
- Gardaí and emergency services attended and an air ambulance flew the woman to Mater Hospital, Dublin, while the local dog warden summoned a vet who euthanised the dog at the scene.
- Gardaí are preserving the scene for a technical examination as investigations remain ongoing, and the woman has also been reported as taken to St Luke's General Hospital, Kilkenny.
- New figures last week showed 73 XL Bully dogs have been put down since the ban that came into effect last February, following October last year legislation banning importing, breeding, selling and re-homing.
