Mother Accused of Spraying Her 2 Young Children with Bear Spray
Police say Christie Lashay Williams sprayed bear spray into two children’s eyes and mouth, and detectives recovered the can at her home.
- On Monday, Leeds police arrested Christie Lashay Williams, 36, charging her with child abuse after authorities say she sprayed two children in her care with bear repellent.
- Officers responded to the 7100 block of Carriage Lane on March 8 after receiving reports of a child outside "crying for help," Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin said.
- The children told officers Williams sprayed them in the eyes and mouth, claiming she did so because they "were being unruly," according to police records.
- Both children were transported to Children's of Alabama Hospital for treatment and are now in custody of the Alabama Department of Human Resources, while Williams posted a $15,000 bond.
- Williams faces a charge of child abuse/torture, a class C felony carrying up to 10 years in prison, as the Leeds Police Department continues its investigation into the incident.
