On Wednesday (May 28), Japanese and Taiwanese authorities announced that the Liaoning, China's first aircraft carrier, has been deployed and is operating in the Pacific. Japan and Taiwan are closely monitoring the movements of the Liaoning and its affiliated warships.
In May, an unusually large number of Chinese warships and patrol boats appeared in East Asian waters.
