Without strict reporting requirements, fewer babies are reported to DCF after positive drug screen

Boston Medical Center no longer automatically reports newborn babies who test positive for opioids to child welfare authorities. The hospital found that when they evaluated each family's situation individually, nearly 50% fewer babies were reported to the state, as compared to other hospitals.
