France, Bangladesh Sign Deal to Provide Loans, Satellite Technology During Macron's Visit
- French President Emmanuel Macron visited Bangladesh and witnessed the signing of a deal to provide loans for infrastructure development, as well as a letter of intent for an earth observation satellite system. The agreement was signed between Bangladesh's Economic Relations Division and the French Development Agency. Macron's visit is seen as a step to bring investments from France in sectors where the US, China, and India are heavily engaged.
- The earth observation satellite system will be used to monitor crops and the sea, filling the monitoring gap currently present. Bangladesh previously bought its first geostationary satellite from France in 2018.
- Macron and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also discussed the facilitation of trade and stability in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as projects related to the impacts of climate change. Macron's visit is seen as a boost for Hasina's upcoming general election.
