Microsoft Releases OOB Windows Updates to Fix Shutdown, Cloud PC Bugs
The updates fix blocked Microsoft 365 Cloud PC access and shutdown failures on Secure Launch PCs after January Patch Tuesday, requiring manual install or Group Policy deployment.
- On Tuesday, Microsoft released multiple emergency out-of-band updates for Windows 10, Windows 11 and Windows Server to fix two issues caused by January Patch Tuesday updates, requiring manual download from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
- Following this month's Patch Tuesday, Microsoft said the January 2026 Windows security updates introduced regressions that blocked Microsoft 365 Cloud PC sessions.
- Some Secure Launch-enabled PCs running Windows 11 version 23H2 cannot shut down or hibernate and restart instead, while the Windows App and remote desktop, including Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365, face sign-in failures.
- Windows admins can deploy a Known Issue Rollback to enterprise-managed devices via Group Policy or manually shut down impacted devices using the shutdown /s /t 0 command, Microsoft said.
- If your devices are unaffected, Microsoft said there is no need to install the out-of-band updates released this past week.
