Williamsport community, officials join Justice for Juveniles Peace Walk
Organizers said the milelong walk was meant to show young people they are supported, as participants discussed future peace walks.
About 50 people walked a mile through Williamsport on Saturday as part of the Justice for Juveniles Peace Walk, an event organized to show the city's young people they are supported by their community.
Organizer Daliesha Walker planned the walk to show children they are loved and supported, following a recent incident involving Jessie Lopez Jr. and a Lycoming County detective that drew widespread attention.
Williamsport City Council member Jonah Milliken attended alongside 9th Congressional District candidate Rachel Wallace, who traveled from Pottsville to hear directly from residents. Wallace said the community is "committed to making the city safer."
Participants emphasized unity and relationship-building, with Walker stating, "Real change begins when a community comes together." The event reinforced that young people matter to their community.
Organizers are discussing future community peace walks in the coming weeks, though no specific dates have been announced yet. The momentum from Saturday suggests broader community commitment to supporting youth.
