Will Red Grooms' whimsical, wonderful Tennessee Fox Trot Carousel ride again?
The museum is seeking private partners to restore and operate the 36-figure artwork after more than 20 years in storage.
Nashville was home to the Tennessee Fox Trot Carousel, a unique sculpture-carousel created by artist Red Grooms around the turn of the century with 36 whimsical horse figures inspired by Tennessee.
The carousel was located on the riverfront near downtown Nashville but faced financial difficulties due to the area's underdeveloped tourist appeal at the time.
After financial issues, the carousel was disassembled and stored by the Tennessee State Museum, which is seeking private partners to restore and operate it again.
There is debate about whether the carousel is primarily an artwork or intended as a rideable attraction, as noted by involved parties.
