This week, Rovdata presented the results from the annual DNA-based monitoring of wolverines in Norway, Sweden and the border areas in the northern parts of Finland for 2025.

Sunndal Municipality will use the reserve quota and kill more wolverines after several confirmed wolverine sightings have been made in the municipality since mid-December.

Last year, there were a few fewer wolverines detected on DNA in Norway, and a significant decrease in Hedmark. A statistical calculation that takes into account that not all wolverines are detected on DNA, still shows that the population nationwide is approximately the same level as in 2024.
