Tough Lineup Decisions Coming as Wild Get Closer to Full Health
Brock Faber, Jared Spurgeon, Nick and Marcus Foligno and Filip Gustavsson returned to practice, leaving coach John Hynes with lineup choices as the Wild near full health.
On Thursday, Minnesota Wild coach John Hynes welcomed five injured regulars back to practice, including defensemen Brock Faber and Jared Spurgeon, ahead of next week's road trip to Montreal, Toronto, and Boston.
The return of Nick and Marcus Foligno and Filip Gustavsson created a "family reunion" atmosphere at Grand Casino Arena, marking the end of their injury absences after missing all or part of the season's first five weeks.
Faber, Spurgeon, and Gustavsson will not play Friday against San Jose or Saturday against Tampa Bay, Hynes confirmed, as the team manages their recovery carefully before the road trip.
Hynes faces difficult roster choices as the five regulars prepare to rejoin the lineup, potentially placing forwards Nico Sturm, Tyler Pitlick, and Yakov Trenin on the bubble.
With Gustavsson available, the Wild face a goalie surplus; Jesper Wallstedt has started 15 of 17 games while Calvin Pickard serves as backup for the upcoming road trip.
