The economic researchers at Wifo and IHS have raised their economic forecast for 2025 and do not expect a third year of recession after all. The Austrian economy will stagnate (Wifo) or grow by 0.1 percent (IHS). At the end of March, they had forecast a decline of 0.3 and 0.2 percent respectively.
After more than two years, Austria's economy can end this year's shrinking trend. For the time being, however, this only means stagnation. And many problems for the location continue to exist, according to Wifo and IHS in their summer forecast.
Austria should leave the recession behind this year, according to the current summer forecast of IHS and Wifo. Holger Bonin, head of the IHS, nevertheless warns in the ZiB2: "The mood is still fragile.

After two years of recession, a turning point appears to be on the horizon for the Austrian economy. This is according to leading economic research institutes WIFO (Austrian Institute of Economic Research) and IHS (Institute for Advanced Studies), which have raised their forecasts for 2025 and now expect economic output to stagnate or grow slightly. Nevertheless, both institutes warn of ongoing risks and only a modest recovery.
