Wiandre Pretorius: Man named in South Africa's Madlanga Commission found dead
Wiandre Pretorius, named in a police corruption murder probe, died by suicide after surviving a recent assassination attempt, leaving four of 12 persons of interest now dead, police said.
- On Saturday, Wiandre Pretorius, 41, allegedly shot himself at a Brakpan petrol filling station, East Rand, and police have registered an inquest docket with investigations under way.
- Named by Witness D, Marius van der Merwe, in November 2025, Pretorius survived an attempted hit when gunmen riddled his vehicle with 16 bullets in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, on Thursday, 5 February.
- At the scene, officers said they found Pretorius's body with a firearm next to it and are reviewing CCTV footage as part of the probe.
- Authorities expect that Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, National Police Spokesperson, said `arrests are imminent` after Pretorius's death leaves only eight of the original 12 persons of interest in the Mbense killing still alive.
- The Madlanga Commission illustrates ongoing probes into Emmanuel Mbense's murder and Witness D's killing, prompting questions about syndicate involvement, investigators said.
