Why Is Organic Vegetables Often Packaged in Plastic?

By nature, vegetables and fruit are usually enclosed in a bowl. Therefore, many markets do not have a separate packaging. But there are exceptions. Organic foods of all kinds are often packaged in plastic. Does this have a special reason?
