Why Is Delta Goodrem Doing Eurovision? Australian Star One of Favourites to Win
On Saturday, Delta Goodrem represented Australia at the Eurovision Grand Final in Vienna, performing her emotional ballad 'Eclipse' as one of the competition's top favorites to claim the 70th anniversary title.
Australia's Eurovision journey, beginning in 2015, reached a peak after Goodrem secured a Grand Final spot following Thursday's successful semi-final performance, ending two consecutive years of non-qualifications for the country.
After Friday's jury show, Goodrem ranked first in press and audience polls among 25 competing countries; her European tour spanning London, Paris, and Berlin is officially sold out.
Organizers faced scrutiny as protesters marched near Vienna's arena demanding a ban on Israeli broadcaster KAN, while five countries including Spain and Ireland boycotted over Israel's participation in the war-affected competition.
If Goodrem wins, European Broadcasting Union rules require Australia to co-host with a European nation, though Goodrem has expressed the country should be allowed to host independently.
