- Last Wednesday, a Himalayan glacier sheared off near the Nepal-China border, unleashing catastrophic flash floods that wiped out settlements and destroyed roads and bridges. The death toll was revised to 908 on Monday, with over 3,000 people missing.
- Architecture Presentation reported the house used a reinforced concrete frame that distributed lateral forces into the ground during impact. Its location outside the debris-flow channel and compact design allowed floodwaters to split around the building rather than striking head-on.
- Resident Prakash Pandey Pyakurel, his wife, and their two children sheltered inside as floodwaters tore away doors and windows. The family remained trapped for nearly two hours before the reinforced structure allowed them to survive unharmed.
- Government hydrologist Binod Parajuli noted that at least four monitoring stations were destroyed by the flood, which rampaged 168km downstream from the border. His team sent public alerts after confirming the disaster, though little time remained for residents to flee.
