Since none of the candidates could obtain an absolute majority in the mayor's election in Oranienburg, the elections will take place on Sunday. For the first time, an AfD candidate in Brandenburg could be elected to the top of the town hall.
The people of Oranienburg will decide next Sunday whether they will have an AfD or an SPD mayor. Jennifer Collin-Feeder (SPD) and Anja Waschkau (AfD) will advance to the runoff. The second round of voting for the new full-time mayor in the Oberhavel district north of Berlin was necessary because none of the seven candidates achieved an absolute majority in the first round.
