Frankfort, Illinois, Mom Corie Walsh Detained in Murder of 2-Year-Old Son, Hires Casey Anthony's Attorney
Prosecutors say Corie Walsh told officers she tried to kill her son because he was the "devil" and the "anti-Christ."
On Tuesday, Corie Walsh appeared in Will County Court facing three counts of first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old son, Barrett Walsh, after a judge ordered her detained pending trial.
Frankfort Police Department officers discovered Barrett hanging in the basement from a rafter on September 1 after a 17-year-old neighbor called 911 for help.
Prosecutors revealed Walsh had "become very invested in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial," discussing the case via group text hours before the discovery, while defense attorney Robert Kerr countered she was "severely mental ill" at the time.
A judge ordered Walsh detained, noting "there are compelling reasons" for custody, though defense attorney Andrea Lyon argued for inpatient medical care instead.
Walsh's husband and mother "have unwavering love and support" for her, while the National Library of Medicine notes bereavement may lead to "prolonged grief disorder , depression, and psychotic-like experiences .
