An exhibition of the late works of French painter Henri Matisse (1869-1954) opens today at the Grand Palais in Paris. It brings together 320 works in various media, from paintings, sketches and collages to stained glass. The artist created them in the years before his death, which were marked by the Nazi occupation of France and his experience with surgery.
Matisse is considered one of the most important artists of classical modernism. Act in blue – paintings from his last creative phase – and other works of his can soon be seen in the Grand Palais.
