Mattel Honors Whitney Houston With Release Of Barbie Collector’s Doll
The officially licensed collectible recreates her "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" video look and is now sold online through Amazon and Walmart.
On Saturday, Mattel unveiled the Whitney Houston Barbie at the 5th Legacy of Love Gala in Atlanta, with the collectible doll retailing for $60.
Inspired by the 1987 "I Wanna Dance with Somebody " music video, the doll recreates Houston's purple tank dress, colorful drop earrings, and vibrant eye makeup.
During her illustrious career, Whitney Houston sold more than 220 million albums, singles, and videos worldwide. The doll positions her among cultural icons honored in the expanding Barbie Signature roster.
Pat Houston, president of the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation, collaborated with Mattel throughout the design process, stating the doll celebrates the "enduring legacy of an icon."
Retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Mattel Creations now offer the $60 doll as part of the Barbie Signature Series. It follows musician editions this year for Miley Cyrus and Kylie Minogue.
