What’s Fueling Wall Street’s Growing Concerns About AI

The Dow fell 1,833 points and the Nasdaq dropped 5.52% as investors questioned whether AI spending and borrowing will deliver returns.

  • On Thursday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 3.44%, while the Nasdaq Composite plunged 5.52% in its worst session since April 2025 as investors sold off artificial intelligence stocks en masse.
  • Paul Mueller, an economist with the American Institute for Economic Research, said Wall Street is worried about "enormous amounts of debt obligations" issued by tech companies amid rising interest rates and political uncertainty.
  • EToro market analyst Jakub Rochlitz said "a large number of crowded and leveraged trades unwind," with major tech stocks including Nvidia dropping over 9 per cent and Tesla falling 10.8 per cent.
  • VistaShares CEO Adam Patti stated "power is the real bottleneck in AI today," noting that midterm election results raised fears of slower permitting and increased regulation for data center development.
  • Despite the plunge, Patti described the sell-off as "a valuation and sentiment reset, not a change in fundamentals," while Mueller cautioned investors to focus on diversification and ignore volatility.
