Pennsylvania Democrats hope to flip Republican-held seats once they settle toss-up primaries
Gov. Josh Shapiro and national Democrats are backing preferred candidates as party leaders seek stronger nominees for four competitive House seats.
On Tuesday, Pennsylvania Democrats are holding primary elections to select candidates in four swing districts critical for the party to retake the U.S. House of Representatives in November.
Governor Josh Shapiro and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee have teamed up to endorse specific candidates in three contested primaries, seeking 'top tier' challengers to challenge Republican incumbents Brian Fitzpatrick, Ryan Mackenzie, and Scott Perry.
Janelle Stelson, Bob Harvie, and Bob Brooks face primary challengers in their respective districts, with Brooks competing in a four-way race for the Allentown-area seat while Stelson and Harvie navigate contests against opponents on the left.
Beyond the swing districts, Philadelphia holds a wide-open primary to replace retiring Democratic Rep. Dwight Evans, with the race considered a toss-up among three candidates.
Governor Shapiro has invested more than $900,000 in state Democratic Party accounts this cycle to boost electoral performance, aiming to position Pennsylvania on the front lines of efforts to retake Congress and block President Donald Trump's agenda.
