After a brief reprieve, severe weather is kicking back into gear across the Midwest and Plains late this week. The next system will usher in the threat of damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes for places like Des Moines, Chicago, St. Louis and Oklahoma City. What to do in severe weather
Illinois had a record-breaking number of tornadoes in 2024 topping out at 142 by the end of the year breaking the previous record set in 2006 at 125, according to the National Weather Service.
