What Time Do Polls Open in North Carolina on Election Day 2026?
Election officials say the state is prepared for a smooth vote as turnout runs higher than in 2022 and absentee ballot rules have changed.
North Carolina set a midterm early-voting record this year, with more than 2.8 million people casting ballots before Election Day, according to the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
Democratic and unaffiliated voters fueled the high turnout, combining to cast nearly 75% of all ballots as of Thursday, according to state data.
Turnout among Asian voters nearly doubled compared to 2022, and Black voter participation jumped 1.5 times to reach nearly 600,000 ballots, according to the North Carolina FreeEnterprise Foundation.
Registered voters must visit their assigned polling locations today, Tuesday, Nov. 3, with polls open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., marking the transition to Election Day voting.
State officials remind residents that valid photo identification is required to cast a ballot and that all mail-in ballots must be received by 7:30 p.m. today to count.
