Second Produced Water Treatment Pilot Facility Online in Permian Basin
The second produced water treatment pilot facility, called JIP 2, is now operational in the Permian Basin in West Texas near the Red Bluff Reservoir in Reeves County, a major oil and gas producing area.
JIP 2 can treat 2,000 barrels of produced water daily, producing about 1,000 barrels of reclaimed freshwater per day.
Texas Railroad Commissioner Wayne Christian stated that these efforts support the oil and gas industry while addressing Texas' growing water scarcity challenges.
Oscar Brown, WES president and CEO, called the JIP 2 start-up a pivotal milestone for transforming produced water from a disposal problem into a valuable resource for the Permian Basin and beyond.
