Russell Retires From IPL, Joins KKR's Coaching Department

  • On Nov 30, 2025 Andre Russell announced his immediate retirement from the Indian Premier League and will join Kolkata Knight Riders as Power Coach for the 2026 season.
  • KKR released Russell ahead of the 2026 auction after deliberation, following his 167 runs and eight wickets in IPL 2025; he had retired from international cricket in July.
  • Notably, he scored 2,651 runs in 139 IPL games and won 16 Player-of-the-Match awards at KKR, also earning the 2019 MVP award.
  • KKR will enter the December 16 auction in Abu Dhabi with INR 64.3 crore, having gained INR 18 crore after releasing Russell, leaving many roster slots to fill.
  • Russell will still play in other T20 leagues and for other KKR franchises, following Kieron Pollard's example and after talks with Venky Mysore, KKR CEO, and Shah Rukh Khan, KKR co-owner.
