Novo Nordisk Launches Wegovy Weight-Loss Pill in Germany
The oral semaglutide pill costs about €170 to €280 at retail and follows European Union approvals for use across the bloc.
On Tuesday, Novo Nordisk launched its Wegovy pill in Germany, making it the first country in the 27-member European Union to offer the oral weight-loss treatment.
Earlier this year, Novo introduced the pill in Britain, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates, utilizing semaglutide, the same active ingredient found in injectable Ozempic.
Retail prices for the Wegovy pill range between €170 and €280 depending on dosage, while Novo estimated in August that the product captured 90% of the oral obesity market.
Analysts expect the GLP-1 weight-loss business will reach more than $100 billion annually by 2030, intensifying competition as Novo faces pressure from Eli Lilly's Zepbound and Foundayo.
Lilly's Foundayo is under regulatory review in more than 40 markets with a global rollout expected in 2027, as Novo predicts pills could comprise more than a third of total GLP-1 use by 2030.
