Buffett delays annual donation to Gates Foundation pending review of Jeffrey Epstein ties: WSJ
Buffett is waiting for an external review of the foundation’s Epstein ties before deciding on another multibillion-dollar gift, the Wall Street Journal reported.
- On Monday, Warren Buffett postponed his usual mid-year donation to the Gates Foundation while awaiting results of an internal review regarding ties to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
- The foundation commissioned an external review led by law firm WilmerHale to assess past engagement with Epstein following renewed scrutiny after the Department of Justice released emails revealing communication between Epstein and foundation staff.
- Buffett has donated more than $47 billion in company stock over two decades to the organization. In March, he stated he had not spoken with Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates since Epstein files were released.
- Discussions regarding the review findings are ongoing between Buffett's inner circle and Gates Foundation CEO Mark Suzman. The foundation did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the investigation status.
- The investigation into the foundation's historical links is expected to conclude this summer. Buffett is expected to decide on his contribution later this year, potentially when he releases his annual Thanksgiving letter.
