Walmart Website, App Down in US on December 30; Thousands Report Outage
More than 6,000 users reported issues with Walmart’s mobile app and website during a one-hour outage that disrupted login, browsing, and checkout services.
- On Dec. 30, Walmart Inc. customers found thousands of U.S. shoppers unable to use the app and website around 7 a.m. Eastern, blocking logins, browsing, and orders.
- Walmart said the outage was brief and systems were quickly restored, advising users via its X account to reinstall the app, clear cache for web issues, and send a DM if problems persist.
- Downdetector data showed over 6,000 problem reports around 7 a.m. in New York, with about 70% linked to the mobile app and a quarter to the website.
- During the outage, shoppers reported frozen apps and checkout errors, while grocery pickup scheduling and delivery-driver apps disruptions hampered order completion.
- The Walmart app's heavy usage means its 800,000 daily downloads amplify outage effects, while Target Corp. and Microsoft Azure faced related outages earlier this month.
