Wales captain calls Six Nations 'a welcome distraction' amid off-field turmoil
Wales captain Dewi Lake says the Six Nations helps players focus amid Welsh Rugby Union plans to cut a region and ownership changes affecting Ospreys and Cardiff.
On Monday, Wales captain Dewi Lake said the Six Nations launch in Edinburgh offers a welcome distraction from takeover news and fuels Wales national rugby team’s campaign.
The Welsh Rugby Union plans to cut one of the four professional teams to save money and named Y11 Sport and Media, preferred bidder for Cardiff, which entered administration in April 2025.
With recent form poor, Swansea-based Ospreys supply seven players to the Wales squad including Lake, who will leave for Gloucester at season's end.
WRU assurances include guarantees that all four regions will play through the end of the 2026-27 season, while the Welsh players' association set a Feb. 6 deadline for future clarity.
The Six Nations begins on Feb. 5, and Dewi Lake and Wales head coach Steve Tandy set a realistic target of two or three wins from five while aiming higher.
