VW's Plug-in Hybrid Family SUV Tested
Volkswagen’s plug-in hybrid Tiguan offers up to 115km of electric range as PHEV sales rise 119% this year, the company said.
Volkswagen has launched the Tiguan eHybrid in Australia, offering Elegance trim at $64,590 and R-Line at $74,550 before on-road costs.
The launch capitalizes on surging plug-in hybrid demand, with sales up 119 percent this year and over 500 percent in April alone.
Powering the vehicle is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 19.7kWh battery, delivering around 115km all-electric range on the WLTP cycle.
The Tiguan eHybrid provides 490 litres of boot space with rear seats in place, expanding to 1486 litres when stowed for family use.
Although Volkswagen provides an eight-year battery warranty, the standard five-year, unlimited-kilometre coverage trails competitors offering seven to 10-year warranties.
