Volkswagen ID Cross Revealed as 271-Mile Renault 4 Rival
The small crossover uses Volkswagen Group’s MEB+ platform and offers up to 271 miles of range, with 475 litres of boot space.
On Wednesday, Volkswagen opened pre-orders in Germany for the ID. Cross, a compact electric SUV priced from 27,995 euros, which the company said "sets new standards" in its class.
Based on the Volkswagen Group's MEB+ platform, the ID. Cross is the fourth electric vehicle in the lineup, sharing architecture with the Polo, Cupra Raval, and Skoda Epiq.
The electric SUV offers two battery sizes enabling WLTP ranges up to 427 kilometres, featuring Connected Travel Assist that responds to traffic lights and 12-way front seats with pneumatic massage.
Storage capacity reaches 475 litres plus a 25-litre front compartment; Volkswagen offers leases from 300 euros monthly, with Life and Style trims starting at 36,525 euros, or roughly $41,800.
Design Director Andreas Mindt created the interior to "feel like a friend," incorporating physical buttons that create "stability"—a tactile approach he intends to maintain across all future VWs.
