A total of 3,248 men and women have registered for the first voluntary year of military service in Belgium. This is evident from figures released by the Ministry of Defence on the final day of registration. Ultimately, there is room for 500 candidates.
"Resounding success!" said Defense Minister Theo Franken in a brief message shared on social media to confirm that a total of "3,248 one-year military service registrations have been received."
3,248 young people have applied for the voluntary military service year. About a fifth of them are women. 'It has been a success so far and I look forward to the start of the training of the first recruits in August,' commented Minister of Defence Theo Francken (N-VA).
