Visa Reportedly in Talks to Acquire Fireblocks for $2.5 Billion

Axios said the deal would add stablecoin infrastructure to Visa’s payments business as Fireblocks denied the report and noted stablecoins made up 69% of its transaction volume.

  • According to an October 22 Axios report, Visa is in late-stage negotiations to acquire Fireblocks, a cryptocurrency custody and stablecoin infrastructure provider, for approximately $2.5 billion.
  • The proposed $2.5 billion purchase represents a marked decrease from 2022, when Fireblocks raised $550 million at an $8 billion valuation during a cryptocurrency investment boom.
  • Fireblocks operates using multi-party computation technology, with stablecoins accounting for 69% of digital asset transaction volume on its platform during the second quarter of 2026.
  • A Fireblocks spokesperson denied the acquisition report soon after it broke Thursday, stating, "This is news to us, and not true at present time."
  • Separately, Visa has expanded its own stablecoin capabilities, recently partnering with Mesh to support cryptocurrency spending at more than 175 million merchant locations.
