Virginia Swimmer Gretchen Walsh Wins Prestigious Honda Cup
NEW YORK CITY, JUL 1 – Walsh earned the Honda Cup for her record-breaking 25 NCAA titles, 17 world records, and leadership in collegiate swimming, chosen from nearly 1,000 NCAA institutions' votes.
On July 1, 2025, Gretchen Walsh, a swimmer from the University of Virginia, was honored with the Honda Cup as the nation's top female collegiate athlete at an event in New York City.
She earned this award after a standout season including record-breaking performances and strong competition among finalists from nearly 1,000 NCAA schools.
Walsh secured 25 NCAA titles over four seasons, shattered collegiate and American records, led Virginia to multiple team championships, and excelled at recent national and international events.
Walsh said, "I feel like I’m on cloud nine right now," and called winning "unreal," while the Collegiate Women Sports Awards director praised her as "nothing short of world-class."
This award highlights Walsh's continued rise in swimming, representing her sport and university with distinction as she prepares for the upcoming World Championships.
