Virgin Media TV Down for Thousands Across UK in Major Outage
Virgin Media said teams are working to identify the fault as Downdetector logged 4,313 reports and customers reported pixelated channels and account errors.
On Thursday, May 14, thousands of Virgin Media customers reported a widespread service outage, with Downdetector data showing reports spiking above 4,000 by late morning as users experienced TV pixelation.
Problems began shortly before 10:30am, impacting users across London, Leeds, and Durham, with approximately 80 per cent of reported issues affecting television services while 16 per cent concerned broadband and 3 per cent wifi.
Frustrated customers shared distorted screen images on social media, with one user in Durham noting that rebooting their Box provided "no joy," while many reported the company's service status checker failed to recognize their accounts.
A Virgin Media spokesperson told The Sun the company is "aware" of the issue and engineers are "working as a priority to identify the fault," while the provider directed affected customers to social media channels for direct assistance.
With reports reaching 4,313 by 1:50pm on Thursday, Virgin Media has not yet confirmed a timeline for full resolution, though technical teams continue prioritizing restoration of services across affected regions.
