Virgin Galactic wants your help naming its new Delta class spaceship

Virgin Galactic is letting the public choose from four names as it prepares two Delta vehicles for commercial service in 2027.

  • Virgin Galactic delayed its commercial flight resumption to February 2027, the company announced Wednesday, while reporting a loss of nearly $56 million in Q2 2026.
  • Colglazier attributed the schedule change to "hundreds of relatively small but important installation tasks" required for Delta-class construction, including components "a few thousandths of an inch taller or shorter" than specified.
  • The company retired the $750,000 price point for future flights, citing strong demand, while each new spaceship costs approximately $60 million to produce and has potential lifetime contribution margins exceeding $1.4 billion.
  • Public voting for the new Delta-class vehicle name is open through August 27, with options including Horizon, Explorer, Ascend, and Apeiron for individuals aged 13 and older.
  • Chief Financial Officer Doug Ahrens forecasts the company will achieve 10 spaceflights monthly by the end of 2027's second quarter and reach quarterly positive cash flow within 2027.
