Gypsy and Traveller Site Plans Submitted for Village
OXFORDSHIRE, JUN 24 – Councils consider accommodation plans amid villagers' fears of property value drops and planning breaches near multiple unauthorised Traveller sites in Oxfordshire, with 37 objections recorded.
On June 20, Willy Stokes submitted a plan for Gypsy/Traveller pitches at Wattle Cottage Farm near Didcot, prompting villagers’ fears of falling house values.
The outdated five-year-old Gypsy Traveller Accommodation Assessment and land classified as equestrian justify the application for mixed-use development, citing lack of suitable alternatives and special circumstances.
Local reports reveal all four green belt sites house unauthorised caravans, with a 10ft fence and gravel surfacing erected in three days, angering villagers over blatant regulation breaches.
Villagers express fears over vandalism and theft, feeling trapped by four Traveller sites since 2017, with residents reluctant to discuss impacts on their homes.
Following ongoing investigations, Warrington Borough Council has served formal notices on multiple unauthorised Traveller sites, with legal appeals and enforcement actions still pending across several locations.
