The court is also hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) requesting the Home Secretary and Director General of Police not to allow the road show until comprehensive guidelines or standard operating procedures (SOPs) are formulated. The bench ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by senior IPS officer Asra Garg to investigate the incident.

Chennai: The Madras High Court on Friday ordered setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under senior IPS officer Asra Garg to probe the September 27 stampede during actor-politician Vijay’s rally in Karur that killed 41 persons and left over 60 dead.
