Mentor Public Library is hosting a program where children can learn about the Perseid meteor shower. The Perseid Party will be 6:30 p.m. Aug. 12, at Mentor Public Library’s Main Branch, 8215 Mentor Ave. Children ages 7 to 12 can learn about the most plentiful meteor shower of the year through games, snacks and crafts, according to a news release. The Perseid meteor shower is on display through Sept. 1 in the Northern Hemisphere, with its peak expected to hit Aug. 12-13. The shooting stars can be seen with the naked eye, and more visible shortly before dawn. However, visibility during their peak may be partly obscured by the light of the moon.
